Moving Without a Lift in Prague – Walk-Up Removals, Floors No Problem

Moving Without a Lift in Prague – No Floor Is Too High
Prague is full of beautiful old apartments on the third, fourth, or fifth floor with no lift. Vinohrady, Žižkov, Holešovice, Smíchov – these are districts where lifts are the exception rather than the rule. And many of our clients live in exactly these buildings.
Staircase moving is the most physically demanding part of any relocation. Poorly organised carrying of heavy furniture through narrow corridors can injure the crew and damage both the furniture and the building. That is why we send stronger, more experienced teams and use the right techniques and equipment for the job.
How We Handle Walk-Up Moves
- Carrying straps and harnesses – distribute the load and protect the crew's backs
- Slider pads – for moving furniture without scratching floors
- Disassembly of large items – sofas, wardrobes, and bed frames are taken apart, carried up in pieces, and reassembled in the new flat
- Team coordination on the staircase – constant communication to ensure safety on tight corners
- Wall and corner protection – corner guards and door-frame wrapping to keep the staircase damage-free
How Many Floors Can You Handle?
We standard carry up to the fifth floor without a lift. Higher floors are assessed individually depending on staircase width and item size. If you know the staircase is particularly narrow or has tight bends, let us know in advance – we will come prepared.
Pricing for Walk-Up Moves
Staircase moving starts at 1,200 CZK per hour for a three-person crew (minimum three recommended for upper floors). The total depends on the number of floors, staircase width, volume of items, and duration.
Expect walk-up pricing to be around 20–30% higher than a standard lift-access move. The physical demands are significantly greater and we send a stronger crew to match.
Preparing for a Walk-Up Move – What Helps
- Decide in advance what is moving and what is not – every unnecessary item is extra work
- Have everything boxed up before the crew arrives
- Clear the staircase of pushchairs, bikes, and stands
- Let the neighbours know – it will be noisy and we will need the stairs free
- Have large items like wardrobes ready to disassemble – screwdrivers on hand
Prague Walk-Up Neighbourhoods We Know Well
We have moved countless flats across the districts where lifts are rare: Žižkov, Vinohrady, Holešovice, Nusle, Smíchov, Letná, Dejvice. Narrow spiral staircases, curved corners, and old-fashioned stairwells – we have seen it all and always found a way.
Combine with Other Services
Walk-up moves pair well with professional packing, post-move flat cleaning, or moving part of your belongings to storage.
FAQ
What if the sofa or wardrobe does not fit through the staircase?
We try disassembly first. If that is not enough, we have experience hoisting items through windows or over balconies using ropes – safely, with full insurance cover.
How many movers do you send?
Three as standard for walk-up moves. For very heavy furniture or many floors, we send four.
Will you damage the staircase or walls?
We protect staircases with wrapping and corner guards. Damage is extremely rare – and if it does happen, we are fully insured.
