Moving in Prague with Children: Tips for a Calm, Stress-Free Experience
Moving is stressful for adults — for children, it can be even harder. Their entire world changes: room, school, friends, routes to activities. Proper preparation and communication can turn a chaotic process into an adventure.
Preparing Children for the Move
Start talking about it 4–6 weeks ahead. Explain positively why you are moving. Show children the new flat or neighbourhood — walk around together, find the nearest playground, ice cream shop. Let children make small decisions: room colour, bed placement.
Packing with Children
Involve children by age. Preschoolers can sort toys and help with light items. School-age children can pack their room and label boxes. Let each child pack a "treasure bag" — a backpack with favourite toys, a book, and a snack to carry personally.
Moving Day
Ideally, grandparents or friends watch the children. If not possible, create a safe zone in one room with toys and snacks. Maintain routines: meals and sleep at the same times.
First Days in the New Home
Unpack the children's room first — when they have their space in order, they feel secure. Keep the room layout similar to the previous one. Explore the neighbourhood together.
Cleaning During the Move
With kids around, cleaning the old flat is nearly impossible. We recommend professional cleaning — BeeClean offers a moving cleaning package from 2,990 CZK. Check our pricing.
