7 Kitchen Cleaning Tricks That Will Change Your Life

Kitchen Cleaning Like a Pro: 7 Tricks for Sparkling Results

The kitchen is the most demanding room to maintain in the entire apartment. The combination of cooking grease, moisture, food residues, and high temperatures creates an ideal environment for bacteria. The average kitchen contains more bacteria than the bathroom — even in seemingly clean households. Professional cleaners treat the kitchen as priority number one and have their proven tricks.

1. Cooker Hood: Baking Soda Is Your Best Friend

The hood filter is a grease trap — and most people clean it far less often than they should. Recommended interval: once a month. Remove the filter and soak it in the sink with hot water plus 3 tablespoons of baking soda per litre. Let it soak for 15–20 minutes. The grease literally dissolves. Rinse and let dry.

2. Oven: Overnight Paste

Mix baking soda with water into a thick paste (toothpaste consistency). Coat the entire oven interior — skip the heating elements. Leave overnight (minimum 8 hours). In the morning, wipe with a damp cloth — burnt residue comes off without scrubbing. For final shine, spray with vinegar solution and wipe.

3. Microwave: Lemon Steam

Fill a bowl with water, add sliced lemon. Heat in the microwave for 3 minutes at full power. Leave 5 minutes with the door closed — steam loosens all grime. Then just wipe. The lemon also neutralises odours. Total time: 10 minutes.

4. Stainless Steel Sink: The Secret to Shine

For daily cleaning, warm water and dish soap suffice. For perfect shine: after cleaning and drying, apply a few drops of olive oil to the dry sink and polish with a soft cloth. The result is like an advert — mirror shine without streaks.

5. Tile Grout: Baking Soda + Vinegar

Discoloured grout is the most common aesthetic issue in kitchens. Pour baking soda directly into the grout and add vinegar. Let the mixture fizz for 10 minutes, then scrub with an old toothbrush. For prevention: wipe grout with a damp cloth after every cooking session.

6. Fridge: Weekly Routine

Once a week, go through contents and remove expired food. Once a month, remove all shelves and drawers and wash with baking soda solution. Pay special attention to the door rubber seal — mould accumulates here.

7. Worktop: Disinfection as Standard

Disinfect the worktop after every cooking session. For stone tops (granite, marble), use pH-neutral products. For laminate, all-purpose cleaner works. Treat wooden tops monthly with mineral oil.

Bonus: Keeping the Kitchen Clean Longer

The "clean as you go" rule is the most effective prevention. After every cooking, wipe the stovetop, worktop, and sink. Takes 3 minutes, saves hours of weekend scrubbing. More tips in 10 Pro Tips. See our regular cleaning pricing.
